How to Fix Instagram Feed Not Refreshing
Instagram feed stuck or not loading new posts? Try these fixes — from cache clears to connection checks — before reinstalling the app.
For more fixes, see our Fix Social Media And Apps hub.
Your Instagram feed should refresh with a pull-down gesture. When it does not, the cause is usually local cache, a weak connection, or an outdated app not a permanent account issue.
Quick fixes (try in order)
- Pull to refresh Swipe down firmly on the home feed and wait 10 seconds.
- Force-close the app Remove Instagram from recent apps, then reopen.
- Check your connection Switch between Wi‑Fi and mobile data. Open a website to confirm internet works.
- Update Instagram Install the latest version from the App Store or Google Play.
- Clear cache (Android) Settings → Apps → Instagram → Storage → Clear cache (not Clear data unless you accept re-login).
If posts still will not load
- Log out and back in Fixes stale session tokens.
- Check Instagram status Search "Instagram down" or use a status site; outages affect millions at once.
- Disable VPN Some VPNs block or slow Meta services.
- Free storage space Low device storage can break media loading.
When uploading images fails
If the problem is posting (not viewing), your image may exceed size limits. Resize before upload with our image resizer or see best image size for Instagram.
Still broken?
Reinstall Instagram as a last step. Your account and posts are stored on Instagram servers reinstalling only resets the local app.
